Marie is commonly called MK by friends and family members. She lives with her mother and two siblings in a five bedroom mud bricks adobe extended family house roofed with old zinc which sometimes leak when there is a heavy downpour of rains. They occupied one room while other extended family members occupied the remaining four rooms. Marie lost her father two months ago after a short illness. Her family live in one of the most deprived villages where there is no access to electricity. The mother is a small scale farmer who cultivates rice and other supplementary foods like cassava, yams and potatoes to upkeep the home. Marie is healthy and sleeps on a straw mat on the floor besides the locally made wooden bed of her mother. She attends the nursery school in her village and is making good progress. At home, she always helps her family by serving drinking water.
