Siara, who is also known as Isabel, is a Mozambican girl living with her parents and her sole sibling in a village in the southeastern region of Mozambique, where the climate is characterized by a lingering warm season. Their simple self-built home is comprised of two round huts made with local material. They have no electricity. The sanitary facility is a rudimentary cesspool, with no running water; their daily use water is obtained from a water pump in the vicinities. The main source of income in this family is subsistence farming. Both father and mother work in their small plot where they grow crops like corn, peanuts, cowpeas and cassava. They work hard without yielding enough due to the poor soil, old farming methods and unpredictable weather patterns. Siara is still younger for school, so she has not yet started going to school. Although Siara just has access to two meals per day, she is so lively and enjoys playing games for her age. She participates in this project program where she will benefit from support in the areas of health, nutrition, education and recreation.
